Panic in the DSM-V

Panic Disorder = Anxiety Disorder

The DSM-V is an American Psychiatric Association (APA) credited manual that licensed mental health counselors use to properly diagnose and treat patients. The DSM-V is broken up into sections of disorders that specify different disorders that following under the category. Panic disorder falls under the section of anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorder generally relates towards an emotional response of perceived or real threats (fear) and the anticipation of threats happening in the future (anxiety). With anxiety disorder, an individual may respond towards such anxiety and fear in the form of a panic attack. When those panic attacks become recurrent and the individual has concerns or worries of them occurring in the future that alters normal behaviors, then the individual could be associated with Panic Disorder.
